As part of my effort to provide current and pertinent information I wanted to comment on what is happening in the raw material markets. I think most of you have noticed increasing costs in certain commodities and chemicals.
Dyplast is active in the polystyrene, polyisocyanurate (PIR), and polyurethane markets. In these markets benzene plays a major part comprising approximately 60% of styrene and 60% of MDI (which constitutes 50 to 60% of polyiso).
Benzene has increased about 40% over the last six months and is now driving substantial increases in both styrene and MDI. I do not have a crystal ball but my gut tells me this is not the typical seasonal increase in benzene, so fasten your seat belts, 2017 could be a very interesting year.
