More on the History of Dyplast ProductsIn 2003 Dyplast Products, LLC was formed as the reincarnation of a legacy of excellence in the thermal insulation industry. Dyplast Products’ core business was fashioned around its
Apache Products Company origins were rooted in a venture between Sunstrand Machine Tool and Air Products and Chemicals in 1962. Air Products specialized in polyurethane polyol/catalyst systems, and helped Sunstrand develop a foam system to manufacture restrained rise, rigid polyurethane foam insulation. This was the first integral, continuous restrained rise foam business in the
Air Products and Chemicals eventually acquired all rights to the process and in 1965 gave the name Apache Foam to their new business - - taking the name from Air Products and Chemicals. In 1967 a chemical conglomerate purchased Apache Foam, renaming the company Apache Building Products to better represent its business focus. Apache expanded sales and production across the country, pursuing the insulation market which was being driven by rising energy prices. In 1983 significant advances were made in the foam formulations, creating a new product called polyisocyanurate foam. This new polyisocyanurate foam, a close relative of urethane, had superior built-in flame resistance. Prior to this, urethanes were quite flammable. The basic ratio of polyol to isocyanates in the formulation of polyisocyanurates allowed the new foam to demonstrate superb burning characteristics under all flame testing scenarios. From this point on, polyisocyanurate would dominate demanding segments of the insulation market. This new product also had many characteristics that were superior to the polyurethanes, including physical stability, a more stable and higher R-factor, less friability and greater compressive strength. In 1986 Jim Walter Resources acquired Apache Building Products, utilizing its financial strength to further expand the business. The word "Building" was dropped from its name in June 1990, reflecting the braoder assessment of its future potential. In July 1992, Apache Products purchased Dyplast Foam Insulation Industries, making them a major player in the expanded polystyrene foam business as well as giving them access to the latest technologies surrounding the polyisocyanurate bunstock business. Financial liabilities associated with Apache’s Dryvit business forced them to exit the insulation markets, creating the opportunity for a re-invented Dyplast Products to acquire the prime assets that are represented in this website. The trademarks and patents of Apache Products are now the property of Dyplast Products. In fact, the www.apacheproducts.com now forwards to this website. Dyplast Products therefore is in the enviable position of inheriting an impressive legacy and market presence - - while beginning a new tradition of leading edge technology, new facilities, and sound financial footing. |
